Peniche, Portugal
Peniche: beaches, surf and where to stay
Peniche is a fishing port on a small Atlantic peninsula in Portugal. The town bay, Supertubes and Papôa are here. Baleal is the next headland south — close enough for a surf day, and not where these apartments are.
A peninsula, not a resort strip
Peniche sits on Portugal’s west coast, north of Lisbon. The old town and the harbour occupy the peninsula. Boats still work from here, and in summer the same harbour is the departure point for the Berlengas.
Our three apartments are in Peniche: two toward the town bay, one in the Papôa area. None of them is on Baleal.
The bay
The sheltered town beach runs along the bay. It is the everyday swim and the gentler surf — the reason a lot of guests pick a place they can cross the street from.
Peniche Beach Apartment — Bay faces this bay. Peniche Beach Apartment — Fishermen is a short walk from it. Exact metres are still to confirm.
Supertubes
Supertubes is the heavy, well-known beach break at the south of the peninsula. It is a surf landmark, not a promise about the waves on the week you visit — conditions change, and we do not rate them.
Fishermen’s listing notes put Supertubes about five minutes on foot. Confirm that time with us before you plan a dawn walk around it.
Papôa and the quieter water
Papôa is the northern headland of Peniche: rock, Atlantic view, and smaller beaches including Portinho da Areia. It feels separate from the bayfront without being a different municipality.
SurfPeniche — Ocean View is the apartment for this side, with a balcony over the water. The walk from the door to the nearest beach is to confirm.
Baleal, nearby
Baleal is a village just south of Peniche, tied to a small island by a sandy tombolo. People search for it because the surf there is often friendlier than Supertubes. It is a short trip from town.
If a page online calls a Peniche apartment “in Baleal”, it is being loose with the map. Bay, Fishermen and Ocean View are Peniche addresses. Come to Baleal for the day; sleep in Peniche.
To confirm with the host: Drive time from each apartment to Baleal.
Berlengas as a day trip
The Berlengas are a small archipelago and nature reserve off the peninsula. Seasonal boats leave from Peniche harbour. Access rules, tickets and sailing days change — check the current official notice before you count on a crossing.
Any of the three apartments can be the base. We do not publish a timetable.
Beach season and surf season
June to August is the busy beach season, with warmer water and fuller cafés. Surf is often better in autumn and winter, when the Atlantic is more serious and the town is quieter. September is a popular shoulder month for people who want both.
Monthly prices are published for November to May and for September, October and June. July and August have no monthly price — ask for a quote.
Peniche in winter: surf, quiet streets, low prices
November to May is the quieter part of the year in Peniche, and often the more serious stretch for surf. It is also when these apartments publish their lower monthly prices.
November to May is when these apartments publish their lower all-in monthly prices (Fishermen 980 €, Bay 1,105 €, Ocean View 1,275 €, minimum 28 nights) and when Peniche is usually quieter, with a more serious Atlantic for surf. July and August have no monthly price on this site, and we do not publish a Wi-Fi speed or a coworking space.

View apartmentPeniche questions
Where should I stay in Peniche for the beach?
For the town bay, start with Peniche Beach Apartment — Bay (across the street from the sand, to be confirmed in metres) or Fishermen (a short walk to the bay and to Supertubes). For an ocean balcony near Papôa, choose SurfPeniche — Ocean View. All three are in Peniche.
Which apartment is best for surfing?
Fishermen if you want Supertubes and the bay on foot. Ocean View if you want a view and a base near Papôa, with the other breaks a short hop away. Bay if you are learning or happy on the bay. Distances in metres are not published yet.
How far are the apartments from Baleal?
They are in Peniche, not in Baleal. Baleal is the next piece of coast south, an easy trip for a surf or a swim. A drive time will be added only after the host confirms it.
What is the best time to visit Peniche?
June to August for beach weather and busier streets. Autumn and winter often bring better surf. September is the month a lot of guests use when they want the sea without August crowds. Ask us for the dates you actually have.
